Our Lasercutting zone features two lasers and a material store featuring many commonly used items in lasercutting.
Moonraker, our 100w gantry based CO2 laser, boasts a 1300x1900mm cutting area. It is able to etch or cut many different types of materials such as wood, acrylic, leather, stone, and cardboard. Our members use this laser for making boxes, robots, signs, fixtures, templates for fiber arts/woodworking, and cutting out items that are large.
Crossbow, our 100w MOPA Fiber laser, is a galvo based laser with a cutting area of 150x150mm. It excels at raster engraving items quickly and is capable doing deep engraves into metal. This laser is often used to create badges, small signs, slate coasters, engraved tiles, challenge coins, and metal brands.
We teach and support the open-source programs Inkscape and Meerk40t for use on our lasers. Both lasers have monthly authorization classes.
